Participants of the research program "Mendeleev ecological expedition. Gulf of Finland" from six regions of the country summed up the results of the five-day scientific work. Each group presented a final presentation with the research results.
Research program "Mendeleev Ecological expedition. Gulf of Finland" opened on September 11 in St. Petersburg. Schoolchildren and teachers of the "Mendeleev classes", as well as students and university teachers of the scientific and educational consortium "Advanced EcoTechnologies" from the regions of the business activities of the Federal Environmental Operator came to the Northern capital. The expedition was organized with the joint activities of the Federal Environmental Operator (Rosatom State Corporation), a network of Information centers on atomic energy, the HomoScience educational project and the Advanced EcoTechnologies scientific and educational consortium.
The program of the Mendeleev ecological expedition included days of hydroecology, anthropogenic impact and biodiversity. All the work was carried out under the strict guidance of scientific supervisors.
During the expedition, the Mendeleev team managed to visit various places in the Leningrad Region and conduct laboratory studies in the Zapadny Kotlin Nature Reserve, at the Krasny Bor toxic waste landfill, where the Federal Environmental Operator is working to eliminate accumulated environmental damage. On the last day, the participants visited the museum of the Leningrad nuclear power plant, where they got acquainted with the history of the creation of the NPP and visited the dosimetric control laboratory.
"The expedition provides invaluable experience of practical work with natural and other objects. I am sure that the participants will make a lot of positive results for themselves, this will encourage them to develop further, to link their future profession with ecology. Here they also learn to work in a team, defend their point of view, establish communication, and this will definitely come in handy in life," Anastasia Zhuravleva said.
"Every day was unforgettable. We managed to work in a field laboratory, study the properties of unique Cambrian clays at the Krasny Bor landfill, get acquainted with the flora and fauna of the Zapadny Kotlin Nature Reserve. I remember the excursion to the Baltic Plant, where nuclear icebreakers are made, and the sights of St. Petersburg," Arina Shergina, a student of the Mendeleev class from Usolye-Sibirsky, shared her impressions.
Recall that the participants of the expedition are the authors of the best projects from their regions ( Irkutsk, Kirov, Kurgan, Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod regions and the Udmurt Republic) in the field of solving problems of air and soil pollution, eliminating accumulated environmental damage, alternative energy, waste recycling and others. They will continue project activities in their cities.
