During a working trip to the Irkutsk Region, ROSATOM Director General Alexei Likhachev visited the facilities of accumulated environmental damage in the towns of Usolye-Sibirskoye and Baikalsk, which are being reclaimed by ROSATOM within the framework of the national project “Ecology”.
In the town of Usolye-Sibirskoye, priority measures are being taken to bring the most complex facilities of the industrial site of the Usolye "Khimprom" to a safe state. In parallel, a comprehensive project for the reclamation of the entire territory is being developed. By 2024, the site will be brought into a safe state for the creation of new industries on it.
“Work on the industrial site of Usolye-Sibirskoye is progressing at an accelerated pace, in accordance with the tasks set by the President of Russia. We have already coped with a direct threat - neutralization of risks for the city and the region. Now we are systematically developing design technologies for a large-scale step-by-step elimination of all accumulated damage ", – said Alexey Likhachev, – "in addition, an ecotechnopark will appear in Usolye, several high-tech industries that will be integrated into the production line of ROSATOM. The social and economic development of the city is also important. Investors will be able to come to the industrial site, launch modern businesses, which will breathe new life into Usolye”.
The Governor of the Irkutsk Region Igor Kobzev noted that "work on the reclamation of the industrial site in Usolye-Sibirskoye is under the strict control of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Irkutsk Region and the State Corporation ROSATOM, with the direct participation of the Russian Academy of Sciences and public organizations."
“We are developing a project and documentation for further comprehensive reclamation of the industrial area, which is more than 2 thousand hectares. And this project has a very high environmental and social significance, attention is directed here not only to the residents of the region, but also to all Russians”, - says the Governor of the Irkutsk Region Igor Kobzev. “I would like to stress again that the accumulated damage must be eliminated on the spot. The territory has great potential, and we must create a good industrial site here so that people who live in Usolye-Sibirskoye love their home, feel this nature, do not leave anywhere, and have an opportunity to live here. "
Alexey Likhachev also visited the site of the Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill (BPPM), familiarizing himself with the results of engineering surveys, plans for the reclamation of the Solzansky and Babkhinsky landfills, and sewage treatment facilities.
At the end of 2020 FEO was determined to be the sole executor of work to eliminate the accumulated harm to the environment formed in the course of the BPPM's activity.
State Corporation ROSATOM is a key participant in the national project "Ecology" involved in reclamation of objects of accumulated environmental damage in the Irkutsk, Chelyabinsk, Leningrad regions.
At the same time, ROSATOM is building an integrated system for the management of class I and II waste, which will prevent the formation of such facilities in the future. The state information system for accounting and control over the generation and processing of waste is already undergoing trial operation and will begin operation in 2022. This year, ROSATOM begins construction of the first modern eco-technology parks for the processing of industrial waste.
